“Learn from the eagle when the burden is on your shoulders”

King David mentions in one of its psalms that “He will fill your old age with riches and make you young like the eagle once again”.

Have you ever asked yourself how does an eagle become young during old age? Or perhaps you thought it was just a way of saying…

The eagle can reach 70 years old, but in order for this, it must take a tough decision.

At 40 years old, during his old age, its long and flexible claws won’t allow it to catch the pray any more, while his long sharp beak bends until it cannot eat anymore. The feathers on its wings and chest become thicker and denser, making its flight more difficult.

Faced with the facts, the eagle has two options: to die, or to go through a painful transformation for 150 days.

It involves the eagle isolating itself on a mountain peak, where, in its new nest, it keeps striking its bent beak against a rock, until it breaks. It waits until a new beak grows, and then it tears its claws. After it grows the new claws, it starts tearing off its old feathers.

After 5 months of pain and starvation, the eagle resumes its notorious flight and lives for 30 more years.

What can we learn from the eagle? Nobody is spared from the pain, but if we see it as something uplifting, the pain can pave the way towards greatness.
